Stefan Palzer, coordinator of the HEALING BAT project from TU Dortmund, represented the project at the SALAMANDER Final Conference: “Smart Batteries for Europe: Combining Sensing and Self-Healing”, held on 9 October 2026 in Brussels, Belgium.

The conference brought together researchers, policymakers, industry representatives and European battery projects to discuss the development of smarter, safer and longer-lasting batteries. The programme addressed sensing and battery intelligence, self-healing materials, European research priorities and the pathway from research to market.

Stefan Palzer’s participation provided an opportunity to represent HEALING BAT within the wider BATTERY 2030+ community and to exchange perspectives with other European projects working on sensing, self-healing and advanced battery management. These topics are closely aligned with HEALING BAT’s work on self-healing materials, embedded sensors and intelligent battery management approaches.

The event also encouraged dialogue between research, policy and industry on the challenges involved in bringing emerging smart battery technologies closer to practical application and the market.
