Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) participated in the European Polymer Congress 2025 (EPF 2025), held 22-27 June 2025 at Martiniplaza, Groningen, The Netherlands, under the theme “Polymers for a Sustainable Future.”
EPF 2025 is the flagship congress of the European Polymer Federation, bringing together the polymer science community to present advances supporting more sustainable materials and technologies.
The congress provided a highlevel forum to present the scope of the HEALING BAT project, advancing self-healing battery materials to improve durability, safety, and sustainability in next-generation energy storage. During the EPF Congress, Elif Kaymazlar (TU Delft) explored the use of imine-functionalised polydimethylsiloxane, cross-linked with metal salts, to create reversible adhesive materials with self-healing and recycling capabilities.
A key insight is a humidity triggered mechanism: local chain reorientation and dynamic bonding can help restore functionality after damage, paving the way for safer, longer-lasting, and more sustainable solid polymer electrolytes for battery integration – advancing selfhealing batteries, Liion/LiS energy storage, and EV battery safety and durability.

Great collaboration can still fall short if each team interprets integration differently. ... Read More
