HEALING BAT takes part in BATTERY 2030+, the EU’s largescale initiative inventing the sustainable batteries of the future. A new explainer video maps the programme’s five research areas and associated CSA3 projects. HEALING BAT is showcased under Battery Functionality, where we develop advanced sensing, monitoring, and self-healing mechanisms to detect degradation and self-repair batteries.
What is BATTERY 2030+ and CSA3?
BATTERY 2030+ coordinates long-term European battery R&D across the full value chain. Its CSA3 (Coordination & Support Action) focuses on updating the BATTERY 2030+ roadmap, aligns data/standards and best practices, and strengthens collaboration with EU initiatives while supporting education and skills for next-generation battery scientists. The action is coordinated by Uppsala University and funded under Horizon Europe.
Where HEALING BAT fits
Within Battery Functionality, HEALING BAT builds a toolbox of self-healing materials, embedded sensors, and a bespoke Battery Management System (BMS) to identify degradation events and trigger self-healing actions. This systems approach aims to enhance battery reliability, safety, and lifetime – with a focus on next-generation lithium-sulphur (LiS) batteries. By contributing to BATTERY 2030+’s Battery Functionality area, HEALING BAT helps advance smart battery concepts that combine materials innovation with sensing and intelligence.
